Or are we so blissful that we have nothing to talk about <g>?
A couple of weeks ago, on a glorious vacation to the UK, my hubby and I celebrated the 20th anniversary of our first date/kiss/<ahem>. 20 years!!! I don't *even* feel old enough to have been with someone for that long, but I'm so very, very grateful that he's put up with me : ).
He didn't remember the date, but hey, that's one place where we are a conventional married couple...I keep the calendar and send the cards and such. But he always remembers our real anniversary, and my birthday, so I'm not complaining.
Sooooooo, tell me something happy!!! Why are you in love with your spouse today?

Re: Is anyone still happy?
Wed, November 14, 2007 - 1:45 PMI am still happy. It's been 3 years of marriage this past 11/6. We've gone through some bumps, but we've defin. decided it's for life. I can see us sitting in our track suits in retired in Florida. Me with big hair, him w/ his walker.
I recently started taking a new medication. Side effects include (I sound like a commerical!) drowsiness, weight gain, and loss of libido. I've been on it pre-husband and I know what will happen. I told my him about it and he said "it's unconditional love, you know, if it makes you feel better..."
My only concern is that I hope everyday I give him what he needs/wants. -

Re: Is anyone still happy?
Wed, November 14, 2007 - 2:35 PMhonestly sometimes I just suck it up and do the deed, I know he has needs and sometimes they just don't match mine, but I don't want him frustrated or in an ill mood because his needs aren't met

Re: Is anyone still happy?
Thu, November 15, 2007 - 11:22 AMSix years of marital bliss on 10/27, and still insanely in love.
We've had some of those trials in the last year that either make or break a marriage, and it's made me acutely aware of what a wonderful man he is. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and it has changed our lives quite a bit. Even though I walk with a cane, he still stares at my butt. He cheers me up when my limitations bum me out, and we make up cripple jokes when I'm looped out on pain meds.
One day, when I was out of town with my mom, someone beheaded the sunflower I'd planted in the parking strip. He cleaned up the head and put it in a bowl of water so I could still have a chance to photograph it. He then carefully dug up the stalk and replanted it in the back yard. It's still there, brown and withered now, but I'm not doing anything with that spot until it decomps completely. He has no interest whatsoever in gardening, but he took the time and effort to try to preserve something he knew I loved. I am more in love with (and inspired by) my husband than ever. -

Re: Is anyone still happy?
Thu, November 15, 2007 - 11:46 AMMolly! That sunflower storry got me all choked up <sniffle>!! What a sweet, sweet thing to do : ).
(I too, was permanently disabled around 8 years into our relationship, so I sing my honey's praises loud, for (among a zillion other reasons) taking care of me, and still loving the changed person that this blow has made of me. We are lucky, lucky people.)

Sat, November 17, 2007 - 9:30 PMThats so wonderful!
When I went down with fibro we had to move into a ground floor appartment as I couldn't do stairs anymore, to get me out of bed/off of the couch my husband preped the ground and I planted some seeds and watched them grow, kept me getting up for months. -

Re: Is anyone still happy?
Wed, November 21, 2007 - 9:24 AMYes, when you have it right , it does seem to keep getting better over time.
I just did the math.
On 9/5/2008 I will have been married to that special gal half of my life.
She hits the same milestone on 10/23/2009.
Our anniversary is right around there. I am thinking we are up for a special celebration for the next couple of years. -

Re: Is anyone still happy?
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 11:11 AMThis Thursday will be 32 years for us and marriage just seems to get better each year once you accept who you are and who your spouse is. We are both 50 now and looking forward to a smooth transition into the pre-retirement phase.
I have to admit that I am not comfortable with the new number 50 although I feel great. I think now being "happy" will be more connected to physical health than before. We eat well, she runs around without a break for 12 hour shifts at work, but I have been sitting on my ass for the last ten years. Thankfully, I was always in great shape in my youth, but I am going to turn into stone if I don't figure out a way to get moving again.
I don't care for the gym routine, I don't care much for running, although I can still sprint, but no longer can beat my athletic 20 something son's. I think they have kept me in shape with all the physical contests they put me through. My knees are my weakest link.
The only thing I actually enjoy doing that gets my heart rate up and muscles moving is dancing, not ballroom, but moving to a beat. This seems to come from my early years in martial arts and my love for music. If anyone has ideas on this front, let me know. The problem is I live in Southwest Washington and there is nothing much around here to do unless I drive to Portland and that is another drag. -
